First Meeting of SPF-SIG Community Mobilization Sub-Committee
The first meeting of the Surry County SPF-SIG Community Mobilization Sub-Committee met today for a lunch work session at the Mount Airy Elk’s Lodge. Representatives from Unlimited Success, Crossroads BHC, Surry Friends of Youth, Surry County DJJDP and Surry Health Department attended.
Topics included the history of the Surry SPF-SIG effort, needs assessment information and the two fold purpose of the Community Mobilization Sub-Committee. The committee will investigate possible opportunities to build a stand along organization that will serve as a coalition for alcohol and drug abuse prevention in Surry County.
The second goal of the committee will be to evaluate current substance abuse prevention and treatment offerings within Surry County and create a ‘binder’ of information that is readily and easily accessible to the community. Basically, members hope to expand upon the Surry County Needs Assessment (Published March, 2007) and compile base line data to assist in program research and evaluation purposes.
